This is really the most important; ever developer must learn to work with a consistent work-flow. Use git. There isn't anything as good today. Period. Its not really that complex: *All* development starts from one branch of the repository. Don't fall into the temptation of "oh this is a really small fix, let me do it on live directly. Next, create a sub-branch for new work. Difficult initially, but fully worth it in the long run. Finally, start *every* day by pulling in new changes from the main repository. This is literally all you need to collaborate effectively. You know what others are doing every day, fix issues early between your developers. That's it. Diligently follow these 3 simple steps. Your peers will love you for it.

As a rule of thumb, only around 3% of a developers weekly productive time should be in pre-booked standing meetings. Anything else can be handled asynchronously in systems like Slack or Discord. However, nothing can quite replace a life person to person chat (IRL or Virtual is just fine). Additionally, if the time zone spread is large; plan around this very carefully.
