How much empathy do we practice every day? Is empathy a process or a way of communication? To my mind, empathy is a process that consists of three steps: 1- Practice active listening 2- Try to reflect on what you listen (traumatic experiences that need some sort of emotional reactions 3- Put yourself in the other's shoes and bring it in and connect with your own emotional experience and achieve peace with it.

Empathy is sitting with someone in their time of need. It's active listening with non-judgement. You don't have to experience what they are feeling, or know exactly what they are going through, but it's taking time to acknowledge that this person is going through SOMETHING and that matters to you.

Pero eso no implica necesariamente, que una persona que no haya experimentado situaciones similares, no pueda sentir el dolor de ver las circunstancias de vida de otro ser vivo, y ponerse en acción para mejorar su condición actual.

E.pathy requires both an ice breaker and rapport. Once someone has both they have the tools to begin being empathic. As was mentioned empathy is feeling what another is feeling. Another way to say it is to walk a mile or as I say it a kilometre in another's moccasins. It is not an accident that an Aboriginal reference was made as early settlers of North America had little understanding never mind empathy towards Native or Aboriginal traditions. Empathy is a quality that allows for understanding of people to others. Especially toward others that are different.

Yes, this. I think many can relate to thinking that others must be stupid or something at least once (don't lie to yourself). "How could they [insert a minor inconvenience their actions have caused]?" However cringe, it's good to assume the other person had a reason. Doesn't matter if it's rational/emotional or entirely fictional. Helped me a ton to just ask and try to understand, then make decisions or comments.

Examples, stories, all serve to challenge people and their views of just about anything. Making time for others to listen is key, and allowing people to take home these feelings and thoughts so they can ponder them is helpful.

The best way to encourage empathy through a challenge is easily through discussion of controversial topics along with encouraging healthy debate and dialogue. By delving into areas that may be typically contentious or less explored within your field, it challenges people to confront their biases and assumptions, fostering a more nuanced understanding of complex issues and by uncovering new insights. You can turn cognitive dissonance on its head by fostering an environment where respectful debate is encouraged. Expression of different opinions challenges people to defend their positions while remaining open to alternative viewpoints. This can spark empathy by encouraging individuals to consider differing views with understanding and respect.

Psychological and physical safety are key to creating an environment that invites and honors vulnerability. Empathy is one demonstration of vulnerability. Authenticity, active listening, and sensitivity in one's messaging also can celebrate empathy; they are, indeed, the demonstration of empathy.

Promote active listening, share personal experiences, foster an inclusive environment, and highlight the importance of understanding others' perspectives to encourage empathy in a group setting.
