Technically, you can't say someone is a lost customer for sure unless they unsubscribed.) - to model acquisition 2) cure models - to model loan default when some will (structurally) never default. There's a zero-inflated version too. 3) frailty models - mixed effects version of Cox-PH 4) multiple failure-time models (Anderson-Gill, WLW, PWP, etc.) - can model conversion funnels, repeat purchases, addiction recidivism, touchpoints in patient care/healthcare systems, etc. (Check my featured articles for more about these.)

The following topics are challenging, but there exist methods to deal with: 1) non-proportional hazards: early, late, diminishing effects and crossing survival curves. Joint-frailty modelling (JFM) and multi-state modelling (MSM). 3) multiple missing observations (dedicated methods of multiple imputation based on KM and other estimators) 4) informative censoring

Survival analysis focuses on time-to-event occurence. It does not tell what is happing between now and the occurence of the event. One might consider disease modeling instead, if one is interested in the description the continuous changes of endpoints or biomarkers over time, for instance during disease progression. Disease modeling uses repeated measurements as input, whereas survival analysis uses event occurence. They nicely complement each other. There are been recent attempts to mix the two approaches in what is called a joint model. This is a single statistical model, in which the progression of endpoints is used to further refine the prediction of when the event will occur.

Survival analysis has several challenges. One big challenge is censoring, which happens when we don’t have complete information about when an event occurs for some individuals. A common model used, the Cox Proportional Hazards model, assumes that the risks being studied remain proportionate over time, which might not always be the case. Survival Analysis (SA) has always been a captivating subject for me. In particular, I am deeply intrigued by the Bayesian interpretation of SA. Within this framework, censoring is adeptly managed by marginalizing the likelihood that events will transpire at an unspecified point in the future. In recent times, there has been a noticeable shift in the research landscape. Scholars and experts are increasingly harnessing the latest advancements in Machine Learning (ML) to delve deeper into Survival Analysis. Notably, Deep Learning (DL) architectures, such as transformers, are being employed to represent the intricate distributions associated with time-to-event data. I am genuinely eager to witness the forthcoming innovations in this domain.

Survival analysis can allow researchers and scientist to take critical steps or measures avoiding an endpoint situation clinical practice. It can also serve as a meaningful parameter for the suppression of a critical disease point. Moreover therapies can be compared while combating the end stage a disease.
