Knowing about all the electronic databases available to your patrons is essential. Understand that databases can differ, and only some satisfy every research need. It is also necessary to teach the patron/student how to navigate these databases using the most productive library research strategies for their research needs. Also, databases can be fickle, and algorithms, interfaces, designs, and even locations can change with new updates and improvements. Staying on top of any new updates or version releases is essential to avoid delays or embarrassment.

Quando entendemos que antigamente as pessoas para terem acesso aos livros era apenas através das bibliotecas ,lugares que traziam várias novidades literárias. Atualmente temos várias plataformas digitais que trazem com mais "facilidade " vários assuntos de diversas áreas, fazendo com que fiquemos imersos com mais rapidez.

Remember that even if you don't have face to face contact with library users you are still providing customer service. Metadata and discovery are critical to user experience as its their way into collections and information. Try not to make assumptions about user needs and consult with them wherever possible to inform service developments.

Nearly all library staff members interact with the public. Whether you are a library assistant at the circulation desk or a reference librarian, your focus on patrons ensures that the library is a welcoming space and a location they will benefit from visiting. Even if you are a cataloger at a large academic library who does not have much interaction with the public, or a special librarian at a facility with restricted access, your professional skills provide a solid foundation that makes the library a valuable destination. Catalogers know the best way to organize collections, often working in consultation with public access staff. Likewise, a librarian who works in a corporate setting knows how to add value to the work of their peers.

For some patrons, a talented librarian can be the researcher of last resort, the person they faithfully trust when they call or visit the library. Why? In large measure, our ability to help them locate sources, often including sources they never would have encountered on their own, allows them to see us as experts who can both locate information and discern its value. Some of the best library skills are learned outside of any formalized graduate-level library curriculum. Librarians do more than schedule programs; they also offer them, whether it is a story hour for kids, a book discussion group, or others.

Years later I up-skilled in TAFE and became a Library Technician in my 30s working in Universities and then Councils. At 52 I started a Master Degree in Information Technology graduating through QUT in 2015 as a Librarian. Since then I have built a school library from scratch in QLD and invited to revamp another. Now I am currently building a digital archive for an Agricultural College in the Hunter Valley. I have loved learning new things through my career as an Information manager, you never know where you career will take you.

There are so many opportunities for learning once you obtain your degree and are in your career. Library conferences provide useful panels, guest speakers, hands-on workshops, and even vendors of products that are very useful. Plus there are trainings online and in person you can take. Not to mention reading professional journals- such as those published by ALA and its divisions- can be helpful in staying up to date with technology, information, and issues. Finally, participating in professional social media can not only aid in networking- but in learning so many other things that you can apply in your job as a librarian.

It isn't always prioritised when teams are time-poor and have a lot of competing priorities. Continual professional development should be treated as a core part of job descriptions - library work is eveolving so fast that it's important to try and keep up. Not everything needs to have a cost associated either - reading groups with colleagues using access to journals in the library, online tutorials or reaching out to colleagues at other institutions can all help to keep knowledge and skills current.
