Leaders that compartmentalize or manipulate communication without being clear on the desired goals for success often miss the mark. That is, they may reach the performance objectives but cost themselves the value of team. The value of corporate community and the true tangibles in lifting others up with you.

Actually, I disagree with this in my experience as performance reviews have been in name only and not based on performance objectives that have been required of you. I have literally had senior leaders tell me that they never give any employees high marks or grades based on requirements. In effect, it has irrelevance toward what the final bonus structure is because it was definitely a higher pecking order of who gets what based on position in the company. Sometimes I would say that there needs to be an independent board to hold these large companies accountable when it comes to payouts at fiscal year end!
