This situation is more common than not! Most likely a sign of a larger problem for the work crew, supervision or management. The big picture or business culture can dictate how to handle. When someone ignores safety protocols, it may just be Tacit Approval. Either supervision or management looks the other way, thus giving untold approval to skip requirements or rules. Iâve seen this situation many times over my work career. At the very least I would try my hardest to do the job right and set an exampleâ¦that hopefully my colleagues will follow.

If I notice a colleague sidestepping safety measures, especially in high-risk situations like spill cleanups, I would address it immediately by reminding them of the correct safety procedures to prevent any harm. If the behavior persists or poses a significant risk, I would escalate the issue to a supervisor to ensure it's dealt with properly and doesnât happen again. To prevent future lapses, I would suggest reviewing safety protocols with the entire team, reinforcing the importance of following them diligently and maintaining a culture of accountability and safety in the workplace.
