To guide a team member struggling with self-doubt towards leadership success, it's essential to foster an environment of support and encouragement. A powerful quote to inspire them is by Theodore Roosevelt: "Believe you can and youâre halfway there" . This emphasizes the importance of self-belief in achieving goals.
Encourage your team member by providing constructive feedback that highlights their strengths and areas for improvement. Set achievable goals to build confidence with each success. Pair them with a mentor who can offer guidance and share experiences. Lastly, remind them that self-doubt is common, even among successful leaders, but it shouldn't stop them from pursuing their aspirations.

It is advisable to first figure out what led to self doubt - lack of mentorship, lack of appreciation, lack of a skillset, lack of self esteem or learned helplessness. Setting small achievable goals and giving constant appreciation can help boost self esteem of the team member. Providing constructive feedback can also help upgrade the quality of work leading to high confidence as a result.

To assist a team member struggling with self doubt, I would first ask them to:
1. make an inventory of their skills and experience and achievements that got them hired in the first place, and
2. list the skills and experience required for the role vs their current skills and experience.
3. We would then create a plan to bridge that gap by upskilling the team member, and finally
4. encourage the team member to volunteer to take on leadership responsibilities.
