Are they passionate and engaged or undermining and contrary for the sake of it? This leads to my advice, be curious. Talk to them one on one. Are they particularly passionate about a subject? Do they not realize that they are dominating the conversation? Do they think speaking up in meetings is a way to show they are motivated and have ideas? Are they a verbal processor? Knowing this will help you meet them where they are and better address the need. As a leader, in any capacity, it is your job to coach individuals to be their best, there is not a one sizes fits all solution.
