Most change orders onsite reflect a sense of urgency. If the need for materials immediately manifests itself "overnight", there are a few ideas you may be able to utilize. 1. If there are other suppliers for the same or similar materials, you could utilize their services for a Plan B. 2. If you have found a supplier, and don't want to go elsewhere, get a cost for expediting the material if available, and get expedited shipping. 3. If the delivery area is close, say 200-400 miles away, consider an independent logistics carrier, or for smaller items a private courier. 4. Issue the supplier a PO quickly, so they know you're serious concerning your need. Lastly, keep all informed on cost and communication associated with this.

Have options for suppliers, billing, and logistics available in different scenarios—don’t limit yourself to just a few options, as something that may be unfeasible in one scenario could be a game-changer in another.

If I need materials fast for an urgent change order, I start by directly contacting my suppliers and explaining the situation. Being upfront about the urgency and offering expedited payment terms can help speed things up. I also stay flexible with material specs in case they have alternatives that can ship faster. Sometimes I'll split the order between suppliers or source locally to cut down delivery time. And, if I have a good relationship with a supplier, I lean on that to get priority treatment when it really counts.
