3 Be clear and concise

When communicating with your supervisor, you want to avoid ambiguity, confusion, or misunderstanding. Use clear and concise language, and avoid jargon, acronyms, or technical terms that your supervisor may not be familiar with. Provide the relevant facts, figures, and evidence to support your message, and avoid unnecessary details or opinions. Use bullet points, headings, or tables to organize your information and make it easy to scan and understand. Use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and proofread your message before sending it.

4 Be respectful and professional

As an FM, you represent your organization and your department, and you want to communicate with your supervisor in a respectful and professional manner. Address your supervisor by their name and title, and use appropriate salutations and closings. Be polite and courteous, and avoid sarcasm, humor, or criticism that may be misinterpreted or offensive. Acknowledge your supervisor's feedback and suggestions, and express your appreciation and gratitude. Avoid using emoticons, abbreviations, or slang that may be inappropriate or informal.

5 Be proactive and responsive

One of the best ways to communicate with your supervisor is to be proactive and responsive. Don't wait for your supervisor to ask you for updates or information; instead, take the initiative and keep them informed of your progress, achievements, challenges, and plans. Anticipate their questions and concerns, and provide solutions or recommendations. Respond to their requests or inquiries promptly and accurately, and follow up on any actions or commitments. Show your supervisor that you are reliable, responsible, and resourceful.
