Today, it has been shifted to understanding user needs, what motivates user to use, and what sort of experience they’re expecting from the overall product or service. It has become more clearer and more specific which makes it easy to convey in cross functional teams.

I believe user stories in the UX industry have changed to focus more on what users need and want. Originally, they were mostly about what features to build. But now, there's more emphasis on understanding why users do what they do. This means writing stories that describe users' goals and problems, not just what the system needs to do. It helps designers create products that really help users and give them a good experience ;)
