The saying "Lights, camera, action!" puts lighting first for a reason. The importance of lighting is generally overlooked by most and that's a huge mistake. The best lighting are the viewers which you won't be able to notice, hence the best lighting is natural-looking. For that try to use proper accessories to soften the light, look at the direction and see if that looks natural, also soften the light and use big sources as it gives the best result (a.k.a. cinematic look). Even with a basic camera, you can shoot amazing videos with the right lighting!

I find that what really helps to develop your lighting and cinematography/videography techniques and style is to stop focusing or prioritising so much on lighting the subject and instead spend the time focusing on lighting the space or the room they are in... This often creates more interesting looks and feels more true to life and the way we encounter spaces where lighting has an impact on us... I also suggest spending more time studying light in your daily life. I have started cataloguing interesting lighting that I see in locations and spaces that I travel to for work and/or fun... You might see a curious light effect when some daylight hits an object and bounces into a room in an unexpected way... And gain divine inspiration...
