I don't think you ever really finish the script. Richard LaGravenese who wrote the Terry Gilliam film "The Fisher King" (and many others) once said something along the lines of: "Writing a script should be like ironing a shirt: you keep going over the same spot, and you go a little deeper and a little deeper." I find that even on set I am often still re-writing the script with the actors and the talent till I find the authenticity within a scene and again this process repeats in the edit suite with the editors.

Not to diminish the value of scripting, but there are video projects where creativity and spontaneity on set can really add a lot of production value. Especially if you are working with gifted individuals. Having a script or even a basic structure is paramanout, but we shouldn't be wearing blinkers!
