For example, if you're designing a mobile health application, your primary users might be health-conscious individuals in urban areas. However, to ensure inclusivity, consider also reaching out to users in rural areas, seniors who may not be as tech-savvy, or individuals with specific health conditions. In your screening process, add a mix of demographic questions age, location ETC.

Biases are a real risk for a product or a service design. A great idea and a dazzling prototype won't replace the facts, and remember, you should design with as many facts as possible. If it is your first round of interviews start large (with a broader audience), if possible, then keep fine tuning every other round until you hit the sweet spot of user feedback. Last, but not least, make sure the recruiting is fair or there's going to be poison in the mix.

As per my understanding, I would follow the below process: 1. Understand the project goals deeply to narrow down the types of users. 2. Segregate the user type in categories like primary, secondary, etc. (The name of the category is completely up to the project goals and business needs.) 2. Defining the business goals, introduction, interview questions, rewards for the users, and consent form based on the target users. 3. Designing the interview session while keeping inclusivity in mind (like accessibility for users). 4. As per the business needs and permission, you can recruit the users using social media, market research, etc.

Some ways that could be helpful includes defining who the target audience are and what are their expectations from using the product, also defining your recruitment criteria and channel would also play a huge role in making the selection very inclusive.

Consider factors like age, gender, cultural background, and varying abilities. Collaborate with community groups, leverage multiple channels for recruitment, and actively seek out perspectives that might be underrepresented. When drafting your interview guide always keep your research objectives in mind and start with a team brainstorming session (go it alone if you work solo) to come up with as many interview questions as possible. When you’re happy with your guide, seek feedback from your team, stakeholders and even friends. I totally agree that it is a conversation and not an interrogation. In a nutshell, Inclusive language, comfortable environment and unbiased approach will encourage them to express their opinions.

I like to start any user interview with a proper introduction of myself, and the team followed by a series of priming questions that are designed to be conversational and help build trust and rapport. You can choose the theme with the most data as foundation for designing your product or developing a new feature for an existing product.
