A área de Biblioteconomia é bem mais abrangente do que a maioria das pessoas imaginam. É uma área relacionada gestão da informação que habilita o profissional em áreas como pesquisa, letramento digital, estudo de usuários para criar novas experiências, disseminação seletiva da informação entre outras.

A degree in library science opens up various career paths to choose from. Become technologically savvy, as you are required to be a digital information literacy educator. It produces students who are ready to contribute towards the realization of vision 2030 and a knowledgeable society making librarians a valuable asset to the communities the serve.

Most students who enter a library science program already have a strong interest in research. Whether they are skilled in biology, history, literature, or any other discipline, the library science course work in reference allows them to become generalists (who can help any patron with any source) and specialists in their area(s) of interest. Most academic and many public librarians have assigned duties in specific areas of collection development. At academic institutions, these subject specialists are often assigned duties as faculty liaisons, who assist faculty with bibliographic instruction and building collections. Librarians author book reviews in their areas of assigned interest, and often maintain research in these specialty fields.

Whenever possible, try to build courses into your degree plan that will make you more marketable in your area of library interest. For example, if your undergrad was in elementary ed and you want to work in youth services, take courses that build upon your skills and show that you can manage this area of the library. If you envision yourself getting into leadership, such as working as a public library director, investigate whether you can take courses in areas such as public administration or non-profit management, even if offered outside the formal library master's program. Knowing how to handle budgets, interact with other units/managers outside of the library, and having an awareness of trends in these areas adds value to your degree.

Many people who pursue library science degrees believe it may only end in a cul de sac at a library or archive. That is not the case. The skills you acquire in lib and info science open other doors. You may have an opportunity to serve as a research associate, provide guidance, or instruct in other areas. For example, I left the library world for a couple of years to become an academic advisor responsible for meeting with prospective students, doing basic transcpript evaluations, and developing degree plans for my assigned students. I translated my library skills into a new field: As a librarian, people came to me for accurate information; I did the same thing as an academic advisor. Consider your many options, some outside the library!
