I think it is important to use verbal imagery, using similarities, try to create images in your audience's mind, even if you are watching a video with bread growing, still you have to explain how gluten interacts, so using words like masonry, chain, beam, death weight, can help to visualize what's exactly going in.

Everyone just wants to know what's the impact of certain choices to them. So when I explain how certain food processes (boiling / frying), instead of stating impact nutritional value remaining, I share more about the impact to health, as it is more relatable to the audience.

I love to use this demostration as a "magic" to explain the change in chemical properties of anthocyanins, the strong antioxidants in purple / blue plant foods. Allowing Feedback is very important in improving the delivery of information to taeget audience. Our perspectives about same topic can be different for people from different backgrounds (technical or practical). Listening to audience points of view can help too much to get the future sessions improved better than the first one. You can never imagine what your audience are thinking or how they understand the topic or their concerns unless the communication is going in both directions. This also helps keeping the communication active with less boredom or lack of attention, the message becomes personalised for most attendees when their concerns and ideas are effectively considered.

It is very important to establish a rapport with your audience since the beginning of your presentation. If you are having a virtual presentation, when possible, ask for the audience to have the cameras on. This way you will be able to capture the reactions and non verbal feedback, so that you can explain something in a different way.
