Conferences are useful, but I love to listen to what is going on across business, science, technoloy, geo-politics, finance etc. by listening to podcasts like The Economist while I am driving, unloading the dishwasher or out for my walk. Integrating a news source that suits you, your career and your interests is crucial, don't choose what you think you "should" listen to. Listen to what fascinates you.
