Design and Architecture is people centric. As we expand our knowledge base we must constantly look into demographies; men, women, children, old, rich or poor. Tools will keep changing/ improving but fundamentals of design/ architectural theory are often overlooked and that one must concentrate upon. History, humanities, climate, economics, management of design are facets that one must look into continuously. Interactions on field and with industry are also key to design development and innovation.

A lo largo de mi carrera en la industria del diseño y la arquitectura, he aprendido que las conexiones abren puertas que de otra manera serían difíciles de alcanzar. Asistir a eventos, formar parte de grupos profesionales o simplemente estar presente en conversaciones online me ha permitido conocer colegas, posibles socios y empleadores clave. En más de una ocasión, esas interacciones han generado proyectos importantes y oportunidades inesperadas. A veces, el siguiente gran paso está en una simple charla en el momento adecuado.

Meet, greet, collaborate, delegate, apprentice, tours, conferences, worshops, symposiums, competitions, heritage walks, plain walks. People are key to your growth. At the same time one who wishes to design must spend time away into one's closet as design is a lot of meditation. Time with and away from people must be balanced, else one will become more like a marketing social design assistant. People who run small design establishments seldom get time to meet people but they must make some time to interact and make themselves known. But they must be back to their boards in time to keep the practice rolling.

Apprentice is a very important time on your career. One must apprentice every 5 to 10 years for small terms or collaborate with designers with different skill sets. On field experiences are must in any field and whatever domain of design as well. These experiences from the right chosen people will worth a 1000 certificate courses that you may take from the virtual space. Many people are scared to experiment and avoid the field as the climates are not controlled or comfortable. But to gather the command from the paper to the real one has to spend time on the field however big that you may become in your field. It is this very reason contractors become complacent when architects/designers do not take charge of the site very often.

He comprobado que no hay mejor maestro que la experiencia directa. Cuando estaba empezando, proyecto inicial me permitió entender de verdad cómo se mueve este campo. Y ahora, después de haber pasado por proyectos de diferentes escalas y desafíos, sé que asumir tareas difíciles no solo pone a prueba nuestras capacidades, sino que también nos impulsa a mejorar. Desde lo residencial hasta lo comercial e industrial, cada proyecto en el que he trabajado ha sido una oportunidad para afinar mis habilidades, resolver problemas reales y profundizar en el diseño con un enfoque más sensible.

¡Un portafolio digital dinámico y accesible es ahora más relevante que nunca! Mi opinión: es nuestra mejor carta de presentación. No es solo una colección de trabajos, es una ventana a nuestras habilidades y creatividad. Es importante que refleje diversidad, que muestre lo que podemos hacer en distintas áreas del diseño. Mantenerlo actualizado con nuestros mejores proyectos, bocetos, modelos 3D y planos detallados es clave. Un portafolio bien armado puede marcar la diferencia y abrir la puerta a nuevas oportunidades.

En mi caso, contar con un mentor fue clave para organizarme y ser mucho más productivo en mis metas profesionales y comerciales. Encontrar a alguien con más experiencia en el diseño de edificios puede marcar un antes y un después en tu carrera. Un buen mentor no solo te guía, sino que te ayuda a ver el panorama completo, a mejorar tu enfoque y a abrir nuevas puertas. Esa mirada externa, desde alguien que ya recorrió el camino, puede ser el impulso que necesitas para dar el siguiente paso.
