Abstract: Orature weaves many different literary genres into one. It is a type of literature in which the collective dimension subsumes individualities. This paper defines orature as a specific literary genre and also as a literary theory that favours a criticism of the literatures produced by writers of Western Africa, especially Titinga Frédéric Pacéré and Gnepo Werewere-Liking. It presents orature as an alternative to Western literary criticism and genre theory.

As part of an ancient mythology that saw an animated nature reflected in every place and thing, the island motif has long resonated with spiritual and political significance within Irish culture, and none more so than the Blasket Islands, which rose to prominence as Ireland undertook the processes of national Revival. Reverberating with the ancient significances of the island motif as a place of heightened metaphysical experience, the Great Blasket Island, home of Tomas O Criomhthain, Peig Sayers and Muiris O Suilleabhain, stirred the imaginations of those who lived upon it and of those who visited. Although the island community ceased to be more than half a century ago, the Blasket Islands continue to fascinate. Este trabajo analiza el espacio como un elemento fundamental para el estudio de tres escritoras chilenas contemporáneas –Guadalupe Santa Cruz, Lina Meruane y Diamela Eltit–. En sus novelas, el espacio de la ciudad se presenta como forma de cuestionamiento al canon, ya que la representación literaria de la ciudad real se produce desde una nueva retórica urbana: una que elabora otras formas de pensar la relación entre significante y significado en función del referente real –ya sea urbano, de paisaje, mapas, cartografías, formas de habitar–, y la situación comunicativa imaginaria propia de las novelas.

O texto aborda as vivências masculinas no Piauí do século XIX, com base na análise de textos literários, historiográficos e narrativas de memória acerca das práticas cotidianas da sociedade rural e pecuarista local. Os relatos vislumbram figuras masculinas; os escritos recriam personagens, registram trajetórias da infância, mocidade e vida adulta. Nos registros, os homens surgem com identidades múltiplas: traquinas, aprendizes, homens que tocam suas atividades produtivas e preservam as tradições familiares; acostumados a dificuldades, sem medo de matar nem enfrentar a morte. Nosso objetivo é perceber como as masculinidades foram vistas pela literatura e pela história.

Writing from their different locations in the fields of education (Bishop), English (Nodelman), and publishing and history (Marcus), each author provides a distinct map for following the decisions and consequences associated with producing literature for children. We consider how each reconstructs the adult shadow in literary publishing for children, how the authors' viewpoints intersect, and in what ways adults manage narratives to achieve implied and explicit aims for children's enjoyment, education, and responsibilities as future adults. L iterature for children and young adults is produced, marketed, and circulated for readers of all ages, but it is distinguished as a creative production by the relationships between adults, who are producers, and younger readers, who are almost always consumers and interpreters. The history and meaning of the adult shadow in the making and interpretation of books for children is the subject of three new books by scholars whose work examines the theories, relationships, and debates that have spanned decades of literary production:

Las prácticas de lectura de jóvenes es un tema que no ha sido abordado desde una perspectiva académi- ca en el ámbito costarricense. Este artículo es una aproximación descriptiva de las prácticas de lectura de novelas literarias de los estudiantes de grado de la sede Rodrigo Facio Brenes de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Al estar inmersos en un ámbito académico, se eligió a esta población como sujetos de estudio. Por eso, se le aplicó encuestas a 121 estudiantes de diferentes facultades para indagar en sus prácticas de lecturas de novelas literarias, además se procuró detallar el formato y frecuencia de los y las estudiantes universitarios; así cómo identificar las novelas, géneros literarios y temáticas más populares. También, se precisó indagar el modo de adquisición de novelas literarias y la cantidad de tiempo de lectura dedicado a la lectura de estas.

The paper on Advantages and Disadvantages of the Multilateral Convention on the Double Taxation of Copyright rights present two sides of one coin in an attempt to alleviate issues in the taxation of this type of intangibles. While such Multilateral Convention clarifies many issues on the understanding of copyrights, it lacks methods to relief double taxation. This article examines some of the changes that took place in Tajik literature in the second half of the XIX century and the beginning of the XX century, the linguopoetic features of the language of poetry of the period, the factors of its formation. This article analyzes the historical trends in the literature of the peoples of the world and the influx of Western symbols in all types of works of art in the context of the literature of the Renaissance of Western European peoples and their share in the language and style of poetry. In addition, the researcher discusses in detail the formation of literary and aesthetic views in the cultural life of the period under study, the gradual development of fiction in terms of form and quality, as well as significant changes in the creative style, weight and rhyme structure of poetry.

By investigating learning at literary festivals, this chapter aims to address the gaps in understanding how people learn while practising tourism. It begins by presenting literary festivals in the context of literary tourism before going on to consider a number of theoretical approaches that could be employed in the attempt to further understand how learning forms part of the experience of attending literary festivals. Individual cultural capital acquisition among literary festival attendees are then examined. Key among the questions posed are whether people enhance their cultural knowledge and skills by participating in literary festivals and whether literary festivals are rewarding and fulfilling experiences that lead to personal self-improvement. Empirically, findings of an exploratory study focusing on tourist audiences attending two book festivals in Dublin, Ireland, are reported.

The paper postulates that the art of literature is important in the history of civilization because of its relationships with the sciences, which have enhanced the role of literature in the enlightenment process, making it a hard to underestimate means of consumption that nurtures, develops, and enriches the internal worlds of people. It is for that reason that a close relationship and a parallel dialogue between its main constituents can be observed from a perspective of interdisciplinary relations, between literature and marketing including the concept of consumption and attitudes. Consumption habits, consumption rituals and mystical elements are among the tools that encourage consumption and affect the consumer as well as the arguments that form and define these elements. Based on relevant observations, it would not be wrong to make the claim that even literature is encircled by marketing.

The goals of this study were to (a) develop an empirically based model regarding the development of fluent and automatic reading in the early elementary school years and (b) determine whether fluent text-reading skills provided benefits for reading comprehension beyond those accounted for by fluent word decoding. First-, second-, and third-grade children completed a series of reading tasks targeting word and nonword processing, text reading, spelling knowledge, autonomous reading, and reading comprehension. Structural equation modeling was carried out to evaluate how these skills operated together to produce fluent text reading and good comprehension. Evidence supported a simple reading fluency model for the early elementary school years suggesting that fluent word and text reading operate together with autonomous reading to produce good comprehension.

Abstract: The Postcolonial creative writers from Third World countries, including India,have been waging intellectual war in the form of literary cult. The writers of this movement are characterized by their defiance of the imposed Western aesthetics, coining of indigenous aesthetics and asserting their voice through their own brand of English. The novelists such as Arundhati Roy, Aravind Adiga and even Vikas Swarup are found making experiments with architectonics of the plot-construction and the structure of the novel; there is playfulness with the art of story-telling and narrative technique, use of literary devices, syntax, aesthetics and even language.
