Daerah penelitian berada di daerah  Karangsambung berada di Zona Pegunungan Serayu Selatan  dan merupakan bagian dari Cekungan Jawa Tengah bagian Selatan yang diklasifikasikan sebagai cekungan busur depan, dibatasi oleh Antiklinorium Bogor di bagian Utara, Tinggian Gabon di bagian Barat, dan Tinggian Progo di bagian Timur (van Bemmelen, 1949 dalam Hadiyansyah, 2005) . Karangsambung berada pada batas koordinat 109o35’-109o41’ BT dan 7o25’-7o36’ LS.
Secara khusus, area penelitian merupakan daerah Waturanda dan sekitarnya, yang dapat dibagi menjadi enam satuan utama yang diurutkan dari tua ke muda yaitu Satuan Batulempung Berfragmen yang disetarakan dengan Formasi Karangsambung/Formasi Totogan? , Satuan Intrusi Basalt, Satuan Breksi1-Batupasir yang disetarakan dengan Formasi Waturanda, Satuan Batupasir-Batulempung, Satuan Tuf, dan Satuan Batugamping yang disetarakan dengan Formasi Penosogan, serta Satuan Breksi2 yang disetarakan dengan Formasi Halang, dan yang terakhir adalah Satuan Endapan Aluvial.
Struktur geologi utama yang berkembang di daerah peneliatan berupa sesar, lipatan, dan kekar. Lipatan utama terdapat dibagian Utara daerah penelitian yang berarah Barat-Timur. Sesar utama terdapat di kelurusan Kali Krembeng yang kemudian disusul oleh sesar mendatar dengan pergerakan relatif menganan dan memotong sesar naik yang telah ada sebelumnya dan menghasilkan offset yang terlihat pada Satuan Breksi Volkanik. Struktur geologi utama tersebut didukung oleh data lapangan berupa sesar-sesar minor, lipatan-lipatan minor, juga kekar-kekar yang dapat diukur secara langsung di lapangan.
Geologi daerah penelitian dimulai dari pengendapan Satuan Batulempung Berfragmen di lingkungan laut dalam, lalu diintrusi oleh batuan beku bersifat basaltik. Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan pengendapan Satuan Breksi1-Batupasir secara selaras, lalu diendapkan pula Satuan Batupasir-Batulempung di atasnya. Fase tektonik pertama yang menyebabkan pensesaran yang terjadi dengan jenis sesar naik berarah Barat-Timur dan bersamaan dengan pengendapan satuan Batupasir-Batulempung. Dan fase tektonik selanjutnya terjadi yang menyebabkan terbentuknya perlipatan dengan sumbu berarah Barat-Timur. Kemudian terbentuk sesar mendatar dengan pergerakan relatif menganan yang memotong sesar naik dan membuat celah bagi Sungai Luk Ulo untuk membagi area penelitian menjadi dua bagian dan mengendapkan Satuan Aluvial hingga saat ini.

Increasing pressure on water resources worldwide has resulted in groundwater contamination, and thus the deterioration of the groundwater resources and a threat to the public health. Risk mapping of groundwater contamination is an important tool for groundwater protection, land use management, and public health. This study presents a new approach for groundwater contamination risk mapping, based on hydrogeological setting, land use, contamination load, and groundwater modelling. The risk map is a product of probability of contamination and impact. This approach was applied on the Gaza Strip area in Palestine as a case study. A spatial analyst tool within Geographical Information System (GIS) was used to interpolate and manipulate data to develop GIS maps of vulnerability, land use, and contamination impact. A groundwater flow model for the area of study was also used to track the flow and to delineate the capture zones of public wells. The results show that areas of highest contamination risk occur in the southern cities of Khan Yunis and Rafah. The majority of public wells are located in an intermediate risk zone and four wells are in a high risk zone.

The rising number of non-status migrants is one of the central political issues of our time. This essay argues that if we want to understand the political and philosophical importance of this phenomenon, the contributions of Alain Badiou, his militant group L'Organisation politique (OP), and the struggle of the sans-papiers movement in France are absolutely crucial. This is the case because, I will argue, Badiou, the OP, and the sans-papiers created a new kind of migrant justice struggle in the mid-1990s that in many ways remains at the practical and theoretical roots of much of non-status migrant organizing today. However, this essay also argues that Badiou's theoretical and political work with the sans-papiers also needs to be revised and updated in light of certain developments in more recent migrant justice struggles.

Engineers and applied geophysicists routinely encounter interpolation and estimation problems when analyzing data from field observations. Just a few metecriptrs below the Earth's surface lie features of great importance, from geological faults which can produce devastating earthquakes, or migrating contaminant plumes of hazardous industrial waste, to lost archaeological treasures! Fuelled by the growing need for careful management of the Earth's subsurface resources, traditional geophysical methods designed for deep-exploration targets have been complemented by significant advances in near-surface applied geophysics techniques and interpretation theory.

Porphyry Cu systems host some of the most widely distributed mineralization types at convergent plate boundaries, including porphyry deposits centered on intrusions; skarn, carbonate-replacement, and sedimenthosted Au deposits in increasingly peripheral locations; and superjacent high-and intermediate-sulfidation epithermal deposits. The systems commonly define linear belts, some many hundreds of kilometers long, as well as occurring less commonly in apparent isolation. The systems are closely related to underlying composite plutons, at paleodepths of 5 to 15 km, which represent the supply chambers for the magmas and fluids that formed the vertically elongate (>3 km) stocks or dike swarms and associated mineralization. The plutons may erupt volcanic rocks, but generally prior to initiation of the systems. Commonly, several discrete stocks are emplaced in and above the pluton roof zones, resulting in either clusters or structurally controlled alignments of porphyry Cu systems. The rheology and composition of the host rocks may strongly influence the size, grade, and type of mineralization generated in porphyry Cu systems. Individual systems have life spans of ~100,000 to several million years, whereas deposit clusters or alignments as well as entire belts may remain active for 10 m.y. or longer.

Structural geology is concerned with the deformation of rocks and rock formations. It is a field-based discipline which aims at understanding, from observation of the landscape and the geology visible at its surface, the 3-dimensional geological architecture. This eBook aims at undergraduate students and present basic notions of structural geology including faults and fractures, folds and folds systems, boudins and boudinage, ductile shear zones, foliations and lineations, strain and strain analysis, paleostress analysis.
Amongst all geoscience disciplines, structural geology is perhaps the one that requires the most to develop an sharp sense of observation. Although digital cameras can capture in an instant and at ultra-high resolution our surrounding world, structural geologists keep drawing sketches in their notebooks. They do so for two rea- sons: first cameras capture the world in 2 dimensions only, yet geology can only be understood in a 3D space. Second, sketching forces careful observation and allows for the representation of the geology hidden underneath the ground surface, and that lost to erosion.
I hope this eBook, will help initiate your journey into structural geology. One of the main advantages of the eBook format is its capacity to interactively handle 3D sketches. I have designed mine using Sketchup which I highly recommend to students and colleagues.

High-sulphidation (HS) gold, silver and/or copper deposits are generated in both the epithermal and the upper parts of the underlying porphyry environments over vertical intervals of up to 2 km. The HS deposits are generated in advanced argillic lithocaps, which are products of the absorption of acidic magmatic volatiles by voluminous groundwater systems. Mineralisation styles in HS systems reflect depth of formation as well as the interplay between structural, lithological and hydrothermal parameters. The deep parts of HS systems, at depths of >1000 m, are typified by disseminated copper±gold mineralisation comprising digenite, chalcocite and covellite in pervasive advanced argillic as well as underlying sericitic alteration. In highly telescoped systems, such mineralisation may overprint porphyry stocks and associated quartz-veinlet stockworks. Intermediate levels of HS systems commonly contain fault-controlled copper-gold mineralisation, typically as enargite in bodies of vuggy residual quartz, silicification and/or massive pyritic sulphide. The shallow parts of HS systems, at depths of <500 m, may host Iithologically controlled disseminated mineralisation in which gold and/or silver tend to predominate over copper. Barren acid-leached zones formed in the steam-heated environment above paleo-water tables may be preserved above or alongside shallow HS deposits.

Decades of field and microscope studies and more recent quantitative geochemical analyses have resulted in a vast, and sometimes overwhelming, array of nomenclature and terminology associated with igneous rocks. Under the auspices of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), a group of petrologists from around the world has laboured for more than 30 years to collate these terms, gain international agreement on their usage, and reassess the methods by which we categorize and name igneous rocks.

This research was funded by, and implemented within, a UK national research organisation, while the author was the KE and Impact Evaluation Manager responsible for assessing impact on a £15m UK government-funded research programme.

This work was also submitted as the authors MBA dissertation which was accepted and awarded in 2009.

ABSTRACT: A methodology and methods ‘toolbox’ is proposed for conducting impact research and assessment from within research programmes. The emphasis is upon how to clarify and assess the wider impacts from the early stages onwards.

The approach explicitly acknowledges, and attempts to address, the known issues and challenges of impact assessment while drawing upon the resources and opportunities available to research managers and researchers within such programmes.

The study has two triangulating foundations. Firstly, it examines the academic literature to help identify and design the pilot methodology and methods. Secondly it trials these in a real programme to both test and improve them.

The study was conducted over one year within one leading UK research organisation, where two research programmes (and around 60 research projects of £15m total value) were being assessed for their impacts. The study draws upon actual impact management experience and reflection, prospective (ex ante) and retrospective (ex post) assessments, participatory contributions from leading researchers undergoing assessment, and consultation with external users. The findings of this study outline the pilot and its first iteration. Recommendations are made for improvement to the methodology and methods.

A subsequent follow-on bid to UK government incorporating the impacts identified from implementing this methodology, successfully led to a further £15m of government funding.

It is expected the pilot methodology and methods will be applicable to other organisations, conducting and funding such research programmes, required to research and assess the wider research impacts.

Although primary focus of implemetation trials was upon research in physical sciences, technology, high-tech engineering, computing/IT, and environment, the wider literature study, the methodology design and justification, the methods proposed and used, and the resulting general recommendations and lessons are expected to apply more broadly to many other research areas, where the impact is to be found more widely in the society, economy, government or public sector or within organizations, policies, professions or the public.

Interest in this work is expected from research programme managers, impact managers and assessors, management consultants advising in this area, and government funding managers, all seeking to embed a developing approach to understand, capture, and enhance wider impact.

The objectives of this overview are to establish fundamental concepts of sequence stratigraphy and to define terminology critical for the communication of these concepts. Many of these concepts have already been presented in earlier articles on seismic stratigraphy (Vail and others, 1977). In the years following, driven by additional documentation and interaction with co-workers, our ideas have evolved beyond those presented earlier, making another presentation desirable. The following nine papers reflect current thinking about the concepts of sequence stratigraphy and their applications to outcrops, well logs, and seismic sections. Three papers (Jervey, Posamentier and Vail, and Posamentier and others) present conceptual models describing the relationships between stratal patterns and rates of eustatic change and subsidence. A fourth paper (Sarg) describes the application of sequence stratigraphy to the interpretation of carbonate rocks, documenting with outcrop, well-log, and seismic examples most aspects of the conceptual models. Greenlee and Moore relate regional sequence distribution, derived from seismic data, to a coastal-onlap curve. The last four papers (Haq and others; Loutit and others; Baum and Vail; and Donovan and others) describe application of sequence-stratigraphic concepts to chronostratigraphy and biostratigraphy.

In  what  sense  do  we  speak  of  the planetary university? This  essay  belongs  to  a  more  comprehensive, still  unpublished reflection  that the authors have been developing over  the  past  years  while teaching  and  doing  research in Italy  and  abroad. However,  the essay  delineates  neither  the  situation  of  single  academic institutions, nor  a  general picture obtained by induction starting  from a variety of observational data. Rather,  it  attempts  to clarify,  in  the  specific  situation in which the authors  operate,  the powers  that  act  upon  teaching  and  research  once  they  let  themselves  be  informed  by  the laws  of  the  earth  turned  into  a  planet, that is,  in the words  of  common  language, by the new order of the globalized earth.

Since the freeing of the market price of gold in 1971, exploration for epithermal gold deposits in the southwest Pacific region has been intense, and has been encouraged by some major successes. Sufficient discoveries have been made to summarise what has been found to date, and to assess what implications may be drawn for future exploration. Data are tabulated for 137 epithermal precious metal deposits and prospects in Australia (30), Fiji (2), Indonesia (43), New Zealand (22)) Palau and Yap (2), Papua New Guinea ( 18), the Philippines ( 19), and Solomon Islands ( 1).

Lokasi kampus ini juga luput dari kegiatan gunung api muda dan relatif terhindar dari disintegrasi iklim tropis. Daerah Karangsambung memiliki ciri khas geologi yang sangat menarik untuk dipelajari. Pada daerah ini terdapat batuan Pra-Tersier dengan jenis batuan yang beragam serta tatanan dan struktur geologi yang kompleks. Kondisi geologi yang kompleks ini terbentuk karena pada daerah Karangsambung merupakan zona meratus, yaitu daerah pertemuan antara lempeng (subduksi) yang terangkat. Lempeng yang saling bertabrakan tersebut membentuk boudinboudin lonjong yang membentuk formasi masing-masing dengan jenis batuan yang beragam. Sebelum palung subduksi tersebut terangkat, banyak jenis batan yang terendapkan dengan batuan domiannya berupa batu lempung. Pada daerah ini juga ditemukan batuan yang berada di laut dalam, karena proses pengangkatan pada zona palung subduksi tersebut. Geologi Karangsambung mempunyai formasi yang khas dibandingkan dengan daerah lain. Hal ini terlihat dari bentuk morfologi yang berbentuk lonjong dan berbukit-bukit dengan formasi batuan yang berbeda-beda, stratigrafi daerah ini sangta khas dan membentuk formasi yang beragam, struktur geologi pada daerah ini terdiri dari lipatan, sesar dan kekar.
