Sabratha. Nota di epigrafia cristiana

2012, Pagani e cristiani a Sabratha e Leptis Magna tra III e VI secolo d. C. Monumenti e reperti, tradizione e immagini

There are four Christian funerary inscriptions in Latin. Of these, two are absolutely unpublished, while with regard to a third and fourth one, already edited in the IRT at n. 209 and n. 221, an attempt is made to improve its reading and to carry out a chronological review. The filing is to be considered a draft because a new archaeological mission and a subsequent autoptic investigation are possible in the future. These documents clearly belong to the most typical form of the epigraphic practice of the Christians in Sabratha and, more generically, to that of Tripolitania. All this seems, moreover, to be confirmed by both the recurring use of the symbol of the cross, with or without apocalyptic letters, and the formula bonae memoriae followed by an onomastic element in three out of four examples.
