Pneumatology must follow or include the Father and the Son; yet the Spirit is either abused by fraudulent claims or neglected entirely. This study paper attempts to collect all the New and some of the Old Testament verses that witness the Spirit and His work in one convenient place. This, we hope, will enable readers to demythologize the topic for themselves. The Holy Spirit is THE VICAR OF CHRIST ON EARTH; we are His sub-vicars of Christ on earth: we do well to know the task before us.

Throughout most of Church history, one of the most neglected doctrines is the work and office of the Holy Spirit. The theology of the Spirit has been regardless as the orphan child of Christian doctrines. In this regard, the current volume aims to offer an exegetical contribution that seeks to explain the doctrine of the Spirit within early Jewish and Greco-Roman Christianity.

Can I be sure of my salvation? If so, how? Who is the Holy Spirit, and how does he work in my life, in particular in my salvation? What are the gifts of the Spirit, and do I have one, or maybe more than one? How do I know? What does it mean to be “filled with the Spirit,” and how do I do that? What is the unforgivable sin against the Holy Spirit, and have I done that? How are the fruit of the Spirit manifest in my life? These and many other important questions pertaining to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives in the process of our salvation, will be presented and discussed in this whole course that focuses on the fourth of the six loci of historic Christian systematic theology (soteriology/pneumatology/the application of Christ Jesus’ redemption) as we study God’s answers in His Word. This is a course designed for adult education in the church, but with some slight adaptation, it can be taught on the high school level as well. Selected slides can be used also in teaching beginning aspects of this subject to children and middle school young people.
Building upon research that resulted in my article in the 2006 edition of JEPTA, called, ‘There is Power in the Blood’, in this article, I will trace a thread of thought that is discernable in the history of Pneumatology that envisions Easter and Pentecost as mutually indispensible: the blood and the Spirit, the cross and the Spirit, go together. It will be clear that the practical integration of the work of Christ with the work of the Spirit in an absolute and perfect mutuality still seems to be a young and tentative experiment. I begin my story with an important figure within the prehistory of Pentecostalism, Andrew Murray.
