Thanks for the swift reply, Justin. Ah, so… then I guess I shouldn’t even have my current “Browse Recipes” page? I mean, if I want my recipes to all be via the recipe id short code in a blog post, then if I disable Public recipes – there won’t be any on that browse-recipes page, right?

Hmmm… I kinda like having that page with the nifty search functions and all the pretty recipe pics/synopsis, so maybe… I’ll not use the disable Public recipes after all. Maybe better – to create and publish a recipe, and then create a short into post for the blog with link to the recipe.

That’s GREAT, Justin! I saw that toggle but didn’t know what it did.

So… if I enable it – which version of the recipe will disappear – the published “recipe” post? Or the recipe id short code post on my blog?””

IOW – which is considered the “Public” recipe?

Yesireee – works like a charm – thanks!

Only thing is… Looks like I need to create the recipe as I want it to appear, and then PUBLISH it(???), then create a bare-bones post (with the same featured image as in the recipe page) and peck just the recipe id short code in the post. Then publish the post and it will post to my ongoing blog chronology (as well as go out to my email list as all my other TravelnLass posts do).

Only remaining question: So that will effectively create DUPLICATE CONTENT on my site – do you think that will be a problem for SEO/Google?

Update: Rats! Though I can get the recipe id just by previewing a DRAFT recipe, unfortunately I can’t use a draft recipe id in a post – IOW, I thought maybe I could avoid the content duplication problem by not actually *publishing* the recipe version. But nope, apparently the only way the recipe id shortcode works in a post is if the recipe is *published*.

Woo-HOOO! You’re right – I L.O.V.E. it! Will give it a go, and report back.

    Yippppeeeeee!

FWIW, I have no underline beneath my print buttons. Nor any other of the COOKED icons. Perhaps it would help post a screenshot of it and/or a link to one of your recipes?

YIPPEEE! I now see that you already released the update – and it ALL.WORKS.PERFECTLY now!

Thanks for your swift response to the glitch. Can’t wait to see what you do with the new Cooked Pro version.

Ah yes, a single tiny little bugger like that (e.g. an extra slash, semicolon, omission of a bracket or comma) can wreck havoc for sure (in an earlier life I hand-coded websites too). Tough to unearth the culprit.

I just tried it now, on all the other category links. Glancing up at the 404 url – there’s the extra slash every time. And when I back it out/delete it – it returns the correct category page every time.

Bravo for finding the perpetrator, Justin! I look forward to the update!

Did you get my email reply, Justin? The Permalinks reset didn’t work. Leastwise, not for me on my site (after you reset them). I too reset them again, but still…

No dice. I’m still getting a 404 on all my category links. ;(

What about your kitcatsz? Looks like your golfcampeat site is likewise returning 404s on your categories.

Roger. Just sent you an email. Do let me know if you are able to access my account.

    Thanks much!

Thanks for the screenshot. Yes, I see that now – the id on the pre-published/edit recipe screen. But no, not (only) on the recipe edit screen, as then we have to open the edit screen for each.individual.recipe that we might want to use in a shortcode. Better to put the recipe id’s somewhere on the listing on the All Recipes screen so we can see them all at once, yes?

Stray question (as you brought up recipe id’s here) – where would I find the recipe id for the recipes I’ve created (published, as well as possibly draft recipes)? I don’t see that variable on the “All Recipes” page.

Holy Smokes! Pro will be free to all we current Cookeds? Can’t WAIT til it launches – thanks!

Perfect! Yes – maybe just “click to start timer” on hover.

And yes, thanks – as I’m not (yet) interested in the nutrition function I hadn’t bothered to look there. I just tried it and it works great BUT… maybe a hover there as well (e.g. “click for servings options” or some such) as otherwise a user wouldn’t necessarily know they can change the YIELDS quantity.

I’ve since found a few other glitches/tweaks (like… I don’t seem to be able to “Save as Default” vs. “Apply to All”) but… better I post such questions in the support forum rather than here under “Reviews”.

In any case – thanks much for a FANTASTIC recipe plugin!

OMG – I just discovered the nifty “timer” – very clever!

And yes, you did a GREAT job on simplifying the UI! That said though… while I’ve been able to figure out most all the options, I do have a couple of quandaries:

    1. Yes, yes that timer is very kewl, but… as displayed, there’s no way to know what it is/what it does. i.e. just a clock icon w/ the number of minutes. No way for the user to know that’s it’s dynamic/is a timer that can be activated by clicking. Thus I suggest some means of a descriptor in the shortcode that precedes the icon with “Click the timer to start:” or some such.

    2. The “YIELDS”/Servings – again, very nifty to be able to change the servings (and automatically double, etc. the ingredient amounts) but…

Am I missing something? Or… it seems the default is “1 Serving” and the drop-down offers the ability to “Double” or “Triple” that. BUT… Suffice “1 Serving” doesn’t always make sense (i.e. a dozen cookies, or a pan of lasagna – that actually serves 12). OIW, it really needs to allow more options than a single “1 Serving” as the default. Double and Triple works fine as a drop-down, but you need to be able to set a starting quantity besides merely “1 Serving”.

Also, re: the “YIELDS” – again there’s no way that the user knows to click the “1 Serving” to get the drop down. Better to likewise (as for the timer) have some sort of descriptor like “(Click to increase the servings/quantities)” or some such.

I was able to tweak both by inserting a bit of text near the Timer and the YIELDS, but… a bit awkwardly as the cooked-info shortcodes don’t allow text on the same line, so any manual descriptor necessarily is a full paragraph space above or below the “YIELDS”.

Neither of the suggestions above are deal-breakers, but just something that would better let users know that the timer can be activated and the yields can be dynamically changed. Might be an easy code tweak for you.

In any case – I still think this is a fantastic recipe plugin. I’ve now created a couple of test recipes and set up a “Browse” recipes page – again, the options for browsing all work perfectly, and nice that I can add a blurb for each recipe via the “excerpt” box.

In short, extremely thoughtfully designed, and beautiful displays – thanks again!

Sorry DG, but w/ the many other options available, I wasn’t about to wrestle with making your plugin work. I know nothing about “bootstrap” (nor do I want to). I have a normal WP theme, and expect a plugin to simply work without a lot of fiddle. No doubt your plugin works for some I suppose, but clearly not for me. I did find another plugin that worked immediately w/o a hitch. Exactly what I was looking for.
