• Why do Jetpack include a second Meta description to my pages?

Why is a module, that I cant use, activated by default?

Why are the settings hidden behind a small Debug link in the footer?

    That’s so stupid!

That costs me hours of gratuitous work, to locate the problem.

The problem was again Jetpack and again I had never activated the module. And a again was the no visible settings.

Hi! We include Open Graph and Twitter tags, but not any meta description tags, however. We include those Open Graph and Twitter tags because many of our users enjoy using or Sharing and Publicize features, which don’t work properly if those tags are not included. We do not have a setting to turn this off or not, but you can turn it off by following the instructions here:

    https://jetpack.com/2013/05/03/remove-open-graph-meta-tags/

We also turn them off if we detect that you are using any one of several plugins which also provide their own OG tags, such as the WordPress SEO plugin or the All in One SEO plugin. You can see the list here:

    https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/blob/95e712ca61203a2fef702bacd24bff6cd701fec7/class.jetpack.php#L210

Were your OG tags added by your theme, possibly? Or were you adding them manually to your site? Or was it through another plugin? If through a plugin, please let us know so we can add the plugin to that list! Thanks!

(EDIT: I changed the Github link to be the right one)

Thats not true what you say!
The Jetpack SEO module was enabled, and Jetpack has included a second meta description tag.
The problem is well known. You can find it at Github. But still not fixed.

And yes, I have the Yoast plugin enabled.

And no, I was never talking about OG tgas.

    Hi there:

If you’re using Yoast SEO, Jetpack will automatically disable our own SEO feature – you can see the closed GitHub issue here:
    https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/6953

Can you let me know what site you’re having this problem? Once I have that information, I’ll be better able to help.

If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:
    http://jetpack.com/contact-support/

    Thanks!

I have never used the Jetpack SEO module, but it was active.

And I had Yoast SEO activate, but the Yoast SEO was still active and I had that second meta description.

I have never used the Jetpack SEO module, but it was active.

Jetpack does have features that are auto-enabled – however, the SEO feature is only available if you have a Jetpack Professional plan.

Again, can you let me know what site you’re having this problem? Once I have that information, I’ll be better able to help.

I also experienced the same problem with @gmmedia
