I wanted to bring to your attention that our plugin offers settings to disable out-of-stock variations, which can help achieve the effect you were looking for. You can refer to this screenshot for a visual guide: Screenshot
While I understand you’ve found a solution with a different plugin, if you ever consider switching to ours, you can easily enable this option.

Thanks for still getting back to me. The thing with that setting is that it only crosses out the attribute after you’ve clicked the attribute. It should already be crossed immediately. Or am I missing something?

@aamir I think this is a bug maybe? I’m experiencing a problem with the ‘blur with cross’ setting altogether – this product is completely out of stock (all variations), however the blur/cross is not showing at all, even when clicked.
@willkidger, I think you still need to enable the option to change the dropdown into swatches
