That isn’t possible due to the way WordPress handles permalinks. Posts and pages would conflict with categories if you did that.

You have to set a base for products and product categories.

    Hello,

Do I always need to do that?

Because that isn’t working for me… That is really bad for my URL.

    Hi Joren,

This plugin removes product-category from the url:

    Hello,

Yes, I already saw that plugin, but we don’t want to spend money on this thing…

    Hi,

No more suggestions until now? Woocommerce perfect SEO also does the job (I had a opportunity to test it), but cannot justify it’s price. If you are not using regular pages (of which I doubt), only products, you can solve it easily:

    Product category base: .
    Custom permalinks: /%product_cat%

But in such arrangement you get 404 error when trying to open ordinary WordPress page.

Also you may easily google way to remove slugs from custom post types, which is “product” in Woocommerce – again that does half of a job, because category slug also must be dealt with.

Its only a matter of time then solution approaches. Until then it doesnt seem like living in 2017 for WordPress..
