    Hi,

Up until now I’ve used a separate plugin to have a cookie consent banner, but of course I’d like to use the Shareaholics one as I’m already using Shareaholics. a Few questions, though:

    – Will visitors see this every time they visit the site? Is there not a way to make sure they only see the banner, for example, every month?
    – The banner does not seem to be WPML compatible. With a regular plugin, you can translate things like things by using WPML within WordPress, but as this banner is activated from the Shareaholics site and not from within WordPress, that doesn’t work. Will WPML compatibility be added in the future?

    Thank you

  • I was wondering sort of the same thing. My site has been real slow, and I need to delete a lot of plugins and consolidate them into a few. My site, True Nomads has always bothered me with its slow load time.

    Hi Sofie,

1.) Your visitors should only see the Cookie Consent browser once, unless they clear their cookies. Scheduling the Cookie Consent banner to appear on a customized times is something we don’t offer.

2.) I just tested the Cookie Consent banner on Chrome and Firefox to see if it translates in Dutch using your site, and it appears it doesn’t even after clicking “yes” to translate the page in Dutch. Here’s a screenshot. I’ll make sure to bring this up with my team and let you know once we’re able to support multi-language. In the meantime, you can customize the message/text on the banner. All you need to do is click the Cookie Consent Banner link from your Shareaholic dashboard.

    Hopefully this helps!

    Thanks,
    Mary Anne

Sofie – this is the screenshot I meant to send: http://www.screencast.com/t/WPtCqe7P

    We’ll look into it. 🙂

    Thanks Mary Anne!
I actually see the banner each time I go to my site:/

    Hi Sofie –

Correction: Chrome does detect the language on your site and will translate the Cookie Consent Banner if selected English to Dutch. I realized I didn’t ask it to translate to English to Dutch, which may have caused the confusion. But the good news is that we were able to verify that it does work. Here’s a screenshot: http://www.screencast.com/t/ZR23J0hON1F8

Again, you can always customize the banner’s text by clicking the Cookie Consent Banner link on your dashboard.

Let me know if you have any questions about this!

    Thanks,
    Mary Anne

    Hi Sofie,

I was unable to reproduce the issue when visiting your site multiple times on multiple browsers. Can you tell me what browser you’re using? Are you using any special extensions that that blocks or clears cookies? Do you mind providing steps/details on how you’re able to see it re-appear every visit?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hey Mary Anne,

    I use Chrome Version 42.0.2311.135 m.
I don’t take any special steps. It’s just whenever I surf to the site that the cookie banner appears.
I’m not using any special extensions that affect cookies and have no other problems with them.
For example, I use the sumome scroll box plugin which is set to only display once a month per visitor and that works fine. it doesn’t show up each time I open the site.

    Hi Sofie,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a very unique situation.

Can you please do me a favor and go into your browser Settings? Once you’re in the browser Settings page, scroll down to the “Show Advanced Settings” Link and click it. Under “Privacy” there should be a “Content settings” button. Click that. Under the “Cookies” section, can you make sure that the option that is selected is the “Allow local data to be set (recommended)”? Here’s a screenshot of what it’s suppose to look like: http://www.screencast.com/t/vdZtqhu2kMEm

Let me know what you have. 🙂

    Thank you,
    Mary Anne

    Hi Mary Anne,

    Sorry for my late reply.

That setting (“Allow local data to be set”) was already selected, so that’s not the problem I’m afraid.

    Hello?:)

    Hi,

The visitors see the cookie cosent every time they visit the site, especially from mobile. I see it dozens of times. Is something wrong?

That’s what I’ve been asking for weeks. Seems like I’ll need to start using another plugin.

Sofie- So sorry for the delay in this! It was difficult for us to replicate the issue on our end. I will have to re-visit this issue with my dev team. I can totally understand that having the banner show up every time is a terrible experience, and we’ll try to get an answer as soon as possible.

Makoman – sounds like a bug! Do you mind sending me the URL to your site so we can investigate? If you want to send it privately, e-mail me at maryanne@shareaholic.com.

I apologize for any inconvenience, and we’ll try to get this resolved as quickly as we can.

Hi Mary Anne, any news on this? It still appears every time…

Hi Sofie! I am a developer at Shareaholic and would like to help you with your issue. From what I have read so far, I am curious to see if this is happening in other browsers. Would you mind testing in IE/FF/Safari and see if the issue persists?

Is this problem happening on your website, http://www.wonderfulwanderings.com? I am also not able to reproduce the issue…

    Thanks,
    – Huey
