Great plugin!
But is it possible to choose an image size between medium and large? Or a setting in the admin, that you can define your own size?

You can use Custom Image Sizes by 99 Robots or Easy Image Sizes to add your own image size. Your new size will be visible in plugin settings.
Also, plugin Regenerate Thumbnails may come in useful in order to create automatically images of new size for already existing photos on site.

But I don’t want to install another plugin.
Maybe you could add an option in between medium and large? Like for instance 600×600?
Our plugin doesn’t create its own image sizes but it uses already pre-installed standard by WordPress or those which have been registered by theme or plugin. There are three sizes in WordPress by default(thumbnail, medium, large and full)- as an example, you can go to menu Settings-> Media in console and set height and width for Large size (600×600 pixels instead of 1024×1024).
If you don’t want to change WordPress sizes, then it’s better to add yours with a help of plugin Custom Image Size by 99 Robots or Easy Image Sizes.

And if I use the Easy Image Sizes, which image size does the Comment Images Reloaded plugin takes when somebody uploads an image in the comments section?

I’m nor sure that Nextgenplugin allows to create its own image sizes.
By default,You will see such a list of sizes http://prntscr.com/bdqwyj in CIR settings. If you set Easy Image Size and add your size http://prntscr.com/bdqxhr in it, then it will automatically become available http://prntscr.com/bdqxx6 in CIR settings.
Select it and all photos uploaded by users will be displayed exactly in this size.
You can remove author link in plugin settings also http://prntscr.com/bdqybk.
