• Hi!
We are encountering an issue when using gift-cards on our site – combined with the Vipps Checkout.

When using a gift-card in the cart, the shipping cost is also reduced (as expected). But when the customer then proceeds to the Vipps Checkout, it will calculate the shipping costs again, and have the customer pay that amount. We are using a fixed shipping cost.

In practice, the customer has then paid twice for shipping, as the gift card is reduced by the shipping cost calculated at the cart stage.

To solve this, Vipps either has to not calculate shipping cost at the checkout stage, and only refer to the cart, or somehow have the gift card not reduce shipping costs, and communicate to the seller that gift cards cannot be used on shipping costs at all.

An example, if it is unclear what is happening:

If I put 300 KR worth of products in my cart, and proceed to the cart. There the costs are calculated and the 79 KR shipping is added. If I then redeem my gift card of 500 KR, the costs says 0, and my gift card is reduced by 379 KR. Then i proceed to Checkout, and Vipps calculates shipping at a fixed 79 KR, and have me pay it. Thus I have paid for shipping twice.

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi,

Unfortunately there are some plugins that are not compatible with the Vipps payment gateway because of the way they interact with the flow.

Can you please let us know which plugin you use?

We have reduced capacity for development during the summer, so if a fix is possible, it will not be available until late august.

Hi! Seperate from some anti-spam and performance plugins, we use Elementor Pro, Razzi Addons, Woo AI, Woo Gift Cards, Woocommerce and some integrations to Google and Facebook Markets.

If there are any gift card options that better integrates with the Woocommerce Vipps Checkout, or if you have your own giftcard feature, we would love to hear about it.

    Hi again,

I think I see the problem here and it could possible apply to all gift card plugins where you can pay also for shipping with the gift card.

The shipping options and their prices are fetched from woocommerce by the Vipps app so the customer can choose shipping inside the app. And the Vipps app is not aware that the shipping fee is already included with a reduced price in the cart.

I read the documentation for the plugin now, and see that there are some limitations on which payment gateways and shipping plugins that will work. You can take a look here: https://woocommerce.com/document/gift-cards/compatibility-and-integrations/

I see that you now use Vipps Checkout and can not see anyhwere it would be possible for me to use a gift card. With Vipps checkout all logic regarding shipping is done inside the Vipps app.

You could look into the settings of the gift card app and see if it is possible to limit the use of the card so it is not possible to pay for shipping with the card.

Hi again, and thanks for the reply!

I understand. I will try to find a workaround to see if I can limit the use of gift cards only to products and not the shipping cost itself.
