Current Status of jQuery Migrate

    I am updating an old self designed theme to work with the latest version of WordPress and in particular issues around older jQuery scripts.

    As a starting point I have loaded the old theme in a new install of WordPress.

    I am trying to get clarification as to whether WordPress V5.9 comes with jQuery Migrate activated as part of the core? I thought it had been removed from V5.5 onwards but my Chrome Dev Console is reporting jQuery Migrate as ‘installed version 3.3.2’ (I do not have the jQuery plugin installed, hence my confusion).

    So can you tell me if WordPress V5.9 installs with jQuery Migrate and if so, how I can most easily turn it on and off to help with my debugging work.

    It says:

    Much has changed with WP script loading since this article was posted. These days, WordPress automatically loads jQuery for you

    WordPress itself wrote this:

    Updates to jQuery in WordPress take place across three releases 5.5, 5.6, and 5.7. As we reach the mid-point of this process, run the update test plugin to check your sites for errors ahead of time.

    If you find issues with the way your site looks ( e.g. a slider doesn’t work, a button is stuck — that sort of thing), install the jQuery Migrate plugin.

    I would suggest taking a look at the WordPress Changelog starting at V5.6.

    I have had a trawl through the releases but can’t find any mention of the reintroduction of jQuery Migrate being reintroduced to the core.

    Is there any way to contact a WordPress developer to get a definitive statement?

    I have the same issue, wordpress 5.9.x is still spawning jquery-migrate

    Not yet. I believe that WordPress has reintroduced jquery-migrate as part of the core software in the latest release but I can’t get any response from the development team.
