    Hi,
I have just installed the plugin after having been hacked. But, the hacker just altered htaccess file for redirection and deactivated another security plugin I had.

I hope I did what I needed to do to install BPS correctly, but I don’t understand the “Bonus Code” thing… I am not techie at all. So, I wanted the notice banner to go away, but it won’t by clicking the “dismiss link.”

How can I do that? I really want it to go away … it’s extremely … you know … It’s YELLOW ! shows up on every page … driving me crazy.

Please make it go away. If I need to use the bonus code to make it go away, you will have to help me do it, please … your explanations are WAY TOO TECHIE for me. I could not read more than a paragraph .. : (

    Thanks.

Clicking the dismiss link should just work. If it does not then you either have some sort of website/database damage or the site is still hacked.

BPS or any other WordPress security plugin cannot magically dehack a website. Please see this link for website cleanup/hack repair/dehacking.

…or it is possible that another plugin is interfering with the dismiss notice. deactivate all of your other plugins and then try and click the dismiss notice link.

Phew … Thank you so much!

Deactivating all the other plugins did it. I did not bother doing it one-by-one so I can’t tell you which one it was … was in a hurry.

But, as you suggested, I will also scan my site and make sure things are OK.

Would you kindly direct me to where I could learn about security in general? .. like “must-do” kind of things for WordPress. I am confused and overwhelmed at this point because the security plugin I was using failed, but don’t want to install every plugin I come across panicking … I’d appreciate it.

    Thanks again.

    These are the basics:
    Create very secure usernames: xe4ytu2g9
    Create very secure passwords: g!y6#HeW8*y@b8Tv
Create a very secure FTP password: use whatever maximum password security your host allows. Each host has different things that are allowed.

The most vulnerable and targeted point of entry is any sort of file upload capability in a plugin or theme. If you are using a plugin or theme that allows uploading then make sure it is very secure.

All websites under a hosting account need to be protected or at least you need to ensure there are no vulnerable entry points. If a hacker hacks one site under your Hosting account then there is a 95% chance that your entire hosting account and all websites will be or are hacked.
