    Hi there!

    Hoping you can point me in the proper direction. I’ve enabled gift card payments as shown here and updated the Square production app to API version 8.16.23. However in testing I’m getting the error message “try a different card” on the website and this error in the logs:

    ERROR The merchant has not given your application sufficient permissions to do that. The merchant must authorize your application for the following scopes: GIFTCARDS_READ

    How does one resolve this? Thanks!

    Hi there,

    I’m sorry you’re having that problem with gift card payments on your site. I’m happy to help with that!

    Could you share a copy of your site’s System Status Report with us?
    You’ll find it at the top of the page under WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Download for support (after you scroll down a bit). Once you have the System Status Report file, please attach it to your reply.

    This will help us determine your site’s configuration and look for any obvious problems. We’ve received previous bug reports about this a while back that should have been resolved with an update, but we’d love to know if something new has come up.

    Absolutely! Here’s a link to the system status report… I’ve been pulling my hair out to figure it out this week, so I appreciate your help! Let me know if you need anything else.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for your patience waiting for someone to get back to you. The permission comes from the Square side, our extension typically sets all the permissions in your account when connecting to Square.

    It sounds like something went wrong or possibly the permissions didn’t update when the plugin did to add the Gift Card functionality.

    My recommendation would be to try disconnecting Square in your WooCommerce settings for Square, and then reconnecting your account and testing to see if it works.
