Petra Rivera-Rideau
I am currently Assistant Professor of American Studies at Wellesley College. My first book, Remixing Reggaetón: The Cultural Politics of Blackness in Puerto Rico, was published by Duke University Press in 2015. It explores the entanglements of race, gender, sexuality, and national identity in Puerto Rico, and the ways that reggaetón serves as a space to articulate new understandings of Puerto Ricanness that center African diasporic belonging. I am also co-editing a volume entitled Afro-Latinos in Movement: Critical Approaches to Blackness and Transnationalism in the Americas with Tianna Paschel and Jennifer A. Jones that was released on Palgrave Macmillan in 2016.
