The central problem is how to develop a smart working environment (SWE) based on the needs of this target group. The aim is both practical and theoretical. Design/methodology/approach The action research (AR) approach was used as a frame for the organisational learning process. The problem identification, targets and activities were developed in an iterative process together with the management team and employees. Starting from the main problem, a methodological plan was outlined for the intervention, including several instruments for collecting both qualitative and quantitative data. AR is an emergent process in which data, researchers and participants are equally contributing in deciding on the next steps to be taken. Findings T...

This qualitative multiple case study is a preliminary step in an attempt to understand how to motivate B2B customers to participate in social media innovations initiated by B2B companies. There has been little research conducted regarding social media use in innovation processes in B2B contexts and good case studies are rare. Therefore the aim of the present paper is to explore the motivational factors used by B2B companies that have successfully implemented social media in innovation processes involving their B2B customers. Existing literature is reviewed and five cases are analyzed in order to highlight how B2B companies can motivate participation.

The study is framed as design research where research is conducted in order to feed into a design process. A background study was first conducted in order to identify the target group's needs, abilities, and attitudes towards the neighbourhood. The results revealed positive attitudes towards the area and the need for relatedness, autonomy, competence, pleasure and stimulation, physical thriving and security. Following a User-Centered Design process we based our design choices on these results and developed a local geocaching solution incorporating storytelling. The aim was to encourage senior citizens to socialize, be physically active and to experience the local urban place. An interview-based evaluation with older adults (n=6) combined with an analysis of online cache log data, showed positive experiences of the solution.

The aim is to learn about endusers‟ learning needs/requirements by focusing on user experience. It is based on the assumption that the creation of e-learning materials needs to be grounded in orchestrating e-learning experiences. Research questions are targeting how e-learners manage their learning in a computer-based learning space, and how their learning can be facilitated. The study was conducted at a media laboratory for content testing (iDTV Lab at MediaCity). Mixed methods were used to collect data and triangulated in the analyses. Methods used were questionnaires, eye tracking, screen recordings, observation, and a stimulated instant recall (SIR) interview. The SIR-interview ties the methods together by targeting in-depth qualities of users‟ subjective experiences. Each participant was subjected to instant recall stimulated by their own replies regarding their self-assessment of attitudes, emotions, an...

However, children today spend less time outdoors. Thus, it has become important to understand what drives and limits children’s activities in nature. Based on a Finnish online survey of 1463 parents of children aged 2–7 conducted in 2019, the current study examined parents’ perceived barriers to visiting nature with their children. It also examined how parental mental well-being is related to families’ frequency of nature visits, and whether this association is mediated by different categories of parents’ perceived barriers. Eleven out of 12 barriers were largely perceived by parents as reasons that did not prevent them from visiting nature with their children. Next, factor analysis indicated a three-factor solution to the barriers. The results of a multiple mediation analysis showed that better parental mental well-being was associated with more frequent adult-child nature visits, and this...

Being a learner in a multimodal, blended learning environment entails both consuming and creating own content using a number of media sources and tools. For sloyd education, this multimodal learning experience can be seen as transmedia storybuilding, in which dynamic content facilitates learning by multiple and flexible stimulations. The learning process is the learners’ own stories created through their transmedia learning experiences. We will look at the learning process of learners using the mobile learning solution from of a socio-cultural perspective of appropriating tools for learning. Phases of development are outlined in the paper.
