I hold a PhD in History from the University of Buenos Aires, specializing in Medieval History. Since 2009, I have been teaching Medieval History at the University of Buenos Aires and, since 2021, in the Master's Program in Medieval Studies at the same institution. Since 2015, I have also served as an Associate Researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET, Argentina), where I specialize in the study of Church-society relations in the Middle Ages. Currently, I am part of the project "The Local Early Medieval Societies of the Iberian Peninsula in Their European Context: Scenarios, Practices, and Territorialities (5th–12th Centuries)" (Ministry of Science and Innovation, Spain), based at the University of Salamanca. I have published around thirty papers in specialized scientific journals, and in 2024, my book Local Churches, Monasteries, and Bishops in León Between the Ninth and Eleventh Centuries, which explores the ecclesiastical organization of Early Medieval Spain, was published by Amsterdam University Press.

This paper analyzes the processes of ecclesiastical organization set in motion in the royal towns of the diocese of León with the repopulation carried out by Fernando II and Alfonso IX in the last decades of the 12th century. It focuses on the cases of Mansilla de las Mulas, Mayorga de Campos and Rueda del Almirante. The constitution of these places as royal towns and the subsequent growth of the population of these centers made it necessary to adjust the parish structures to the new settlement models. The adjustment involved the construction of new churches, the negotiation over patronage rights and tithe distribution, and the delimitation of parish boundaries. These processes were driven and controlled by the Leonese episcopate; however, their dynamics and results were conditioned, to a large extent, by the relationships established with urban elites.
ABSTRACT: This paper analyzes the transformations undergone by the local clergy in the diocese of Leon between the mid-eleventh and the beginning of the 13 th Century, with a view to shedding light on how this group adjusted to the new framework of ecclesiastical organization promoted by the Gregorian Reform. To this end, the study examines different aspects such as the changes in the ways clergymen were appointed, the subordination of local clergymen to the episcopal jurisdiction, their adjustment to certain standards of discipline and behavior, and their participation in the ecclesiastical income, within a context characterized by the strengthening of episcopal authority and the configuration of the parish system in northern Iberia.
This paper examines the rural clergy of the diocese of León between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries in order to shed light on the social transformation resulting from the development of the parish system in northern Iberia. The study analyzes the changes in the relationship between rural priests and the local communities where they held office. This study takes into consideration the reinforcement of episcopal power over local churches and priests; requirements and procedures associated with clerical ordination and ecclesiastical appointment; the role played by rural communities in the election of their local priests; and the disputes between the diocesan clergy and the communities over the control of local churches and its priests.
