Six participants were interviewed about navigating their gender identity throughout college and adulthood. Four themes emerged: gendered attributes, within-group differences, identity development, and experiences in counseling. Themes are discussed in light of humanistic literature, and implications are discussed.

Specifically, authors utilize ecological systems theory, as well as social goals, to better understand points of intervention across contexts such as community, school, and Internet settings. An illustrative example is used to demonstrate how professional counselors, as well as related mental health and youth services professionals, can utilize social goals and ecological systems theory to intervene at different systemic levels and within their respective contexts. Implications for the interdisciplinary ecological framework are discussed, including cautions and areas for future research.

The article also provides an important synthesis and operationalization of queer identity, queer adolescent dating and sexuality, access to affirmative spaces, queer-inclusive education, and legal implications. The authors build upon the limited counseling literature addressing queer adolescent dating and sexuality by providing culturally responsive and proac- tive implications for counselors, counselor educators, and supervisors. A case study and discus- sion is used to highlight potential actionable suggestions for counselors, counselor educators, and supervisors.
