This paper investigates The Myth of Sisyphus, Albert Camus' work of art based on absurdism as the main theme in relation to intertextuality, particularly in reference to another work of Albert Camus, The Stranger. Though the two books were written in different genres, they bear intertextual relationships. Accordingly, the myth includes a plethora of intertextual links to many other philosophers and philosophical thoughts. Given the presupposition on an intertextual relationship between both books as well as other intertextual connections with various figures and phenomena, such intertextual figures as allusion, quotation and referencing, and irony were applied through extracts from the book to observe the level of intertexuality. In the light of findings, it is claimed that from the very beginning of the end the myth contains intertextual overtones enough to prove that not only does it make reference to a wide range of philosophical figures and thoughts as well as religious terms as the source, but also it apparently provides a basis for the book The Stranger, pointing to a case of 'back to the future' in a sense. Besides, as manifested by examples from the myth, it is suggested that intertextual figures used set its readers thinking and imagining while dealing with the understanding of what is given as a whole. This shows that intertextuality adds both stylistic and contextual contribution to the source text with its various forms of applications.

This study seeks to examine journalistic translations of cultural news texts in BBC and Euronews in relation to omission, addition and paraphrasing. Four texts were taken as basis for the present study. According to the findings of the study it is suggested that there are a great many occasions of omissions, additions and paraphrased sentences. It is further suggested that most of the cultural elements are ignored when transferring the source texts into the target texts. Two of the underlying causes of abovementioned strategies are argued to be linguistic differences as well as background knowledge of the target audiences. It is concluded that via these strategies by text producers of the target texts, the target readers are deprived of full access to the source texts, leading to an unequal treatment related to the freedom of information.

This research article was designed to make an in-depth analysis of popular culture
and body. İn today’s consumption society, the way concepts are perceived and their
impacts have begun to differentiate. İt is observed that particularly images that
media tools make use of manage to have a perceptual influence on individuals in shaping societies in which these individuals reside. The body image as the main
element of the article has been investigated at the center of popular culture. As a
result, it was determined that both woman and man bodies are used insensitively
related to the perception that is sought to be created, and are exploited to affect the
subconscious. The tendency by advertisements to make use of body as fundamental
parts of consumption society reflects the truth. More and more coverage of famous
people or women believed to have a beautiful face or a fit body in advertisements
carried out in notably Turkey and served along with messages affecting
subconscious clear shows that this situation will continue in the future.

Eriş Abstract This study seeks to investigate how cultural terminology is handled in relation to strategies and procedures suggested by Vinay and Darbelnet (1977) based on cultural translation in the English translation of Yaşar Kemal's book Binboğalar Efsanesi (The Legend of the thousand Bulls). These strategies and procedures are direct and oblique translation. The former includes borrowing, calque, and literal translation while the latter is formed of transposition, modulation, equivalence, and adaptation. The first 37 pages of the target text were taken into consideration via examples from the book to be analysed in terms of all abovementioned strategies and procedures. As a result of the study, it was determined that the translator of the book Thilda Kemal performed all these strategies and procedures when rendering the Turkish book into English. In addition, it was found out that the linguistic and cultural competence of the translator allowed the book to be translated in a manner that would make it possible for almost every single word to be understood by the target reader. Finally, it was concluded that the translator took care of a myriad of cultural terms and usages as well as colloquial language with minimal use of omission, revealing that she is well-aware of the proper methods to be used when translating culture. It is also recommended that the English translation of the book be investigated by other means in relation to Translation Studies. Kültürel terminoloji çeviri kapsamında nasıl ele alınıyor? While the process of subtitle translation is yet already hard due to some issues such as synchronicity, intersemiotic nature, multimodality, and technical constraints, handling cultural phenomena tightens the noose for the subtitlers or translators. It is believed that specifically seeking commercial profits and international recognition has averted the issue of rendering messages as is in original form. Taking into account all of these, the movie Winter Sleep (Kış Uykusu in original) by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, a prominent Turkish director, shall be taken as the object of analysis in terms of French and English subtitles. The subtitle translations in French and English shall be analysed in terms of cultural, social and psychological factors that influence the translations of subtitles of this movie as well as the constraints that may have led to changes or loss in translations.

The translations of a major work by Albert Camus, The Stranger (or The Outsider) into English and Turkish obviously are to be analysed on their own merits to unearth how the variability of cultural codes should be considered a kind of treason to the target culture when codes are converted into texts. How cultural codes and expressions are translated into Turkish and English, whether the rendering of both versions comes out in a very different way or not, what may have driven the translator to translate culture-specific terms as they are seen in the book, as well as the sociological, psychological and social reflections behind the translations of The Stranger are among the issues to be addressed in the chapter.

This study has been designed to reveal the metaphorical language use both in English and Turkish based on translations of technical and economic texts. In so doing, the three categories of metaphors developed by Lakoff and Johnson (1980) were used to analyse the data obtained from various online news agencies and platforms in which technical analysis are provided. These three metaphors are: structural, orientational, and ontological metaphors. Approximately 50 words and phrases were collected from these platforms and agencies to conduct an analysis regarding how translations of these metaphors are done into Turkish and whether these metaphors have equivalent words and phrases in Turkish. Following an analysis of these metaphors based on the three categories of Lakoff and Johnson (1980), it was concluded that the advantage of the Englishspeaking world in having a language which is lingua franca all over the world makes it possible to make use of a plethora of metaphors, whereas Turkish language has a more standardized metaphorical use not because the Turkish language is not fitted but because English is the first language that draws upon emerging words and phrases that may have undergone change in terms of meaning.

This paper seeks to investigate the habituses of translators of the book My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk, Nobel laureate, in English, French and Italian languages concerning the potential relationship between the author and translator, dispositions and world views of translators as well as their educational and familial background. The main basis used as a ground in the paper is the famous term habitus by Bourdieu which lays the way open for research on Translation Studies concerning the Sociology of Translation. The translators of all versions were interviewed via email and asked four questions related to the translation process of the book to have an insight into whether they were guided by their habituses or not. In the light of in-depth analysis of the habituses of the translators, it is claimed that a translation process is a social deed and that in the process of translating translators are not independent of their habitus, which is an umbrella term used for entire past of the individual. It is suggested that relationships between the author and the translator emerge as a crucial factor that paves the way for success in the output at the end. Furthermore, it is observed that translators tend to rely on their intellectual and familial background as well as ethos when making choices related to which works and authors should be translated over time.
