Teenagers have perspectives and opinions that are often overlooked by adults. While you may not always agree with their ideas, their views are still valid. It’s important to engage teens in meaningful conversations about the issues and challenges that matter to them. Listen without judgment, so they feel heard, understood, and valued for who they are and what they can contribute to the world today. Rather than talking at them, involve them in a dialogue and show genuine interest in their thoughts. By doing this, you’ll build trust and increase their openness to hearing your perspective as well.

To ignite inspiration and motivation in teenagers during a workshop, focus on: 1. Relatability: Share real-life stories that connect with their interests and dreams. 2. Passion: Show your enthusiasm—it’s contagious. 3. Interaction: Involve them in activities where they can create, share ideas, and lead. 4. Make them feel capable, excited, and curious about what they can achieve!

This topic has me grinning ear to ear. I’ll be candid and with a sincere absence of ego, I have literally spoken to over 1.5 million youth, the bulk of them teenagers, since 1981 when there wasn’t internet videos or slide decks, just “storytelling. My story is timeless because I was born without arms. 43 years ago, I was an absolute novelty as an assembly speaker. I play the drums with my feet and would always lead with an example, playing a snare drum. It was magical and in 2024, it still is. We’ve been led to believe young people won’t sit through a one hour speech. Wrong! In fact, information overload online has made a “real story and in person” a very powerful contrast and stays with them…forever. Authenticity is the key! 👣🙏
