ed abundant information about the local ceramic production during Proto-
historic times. The remains of the past that have been unearthed in the
current city, together with well-contrasted analytical data, allow us to as-
sure that
from the 7th century BC, at least, pottery has been a specialized and
diversi
fied activity, separated
from the domestic sphere that had developed
before, although
for the moment, the only documented ovens are dated in the
5
th century BC. This paper discusses the results of the physical chemical
study of the clays
from two representative sets of the Orientalizing period
vessels. Analysis of the clays
from local quarries, used until recently by the
native potters, has allowed to compare the archaeometric results with the
pottery recovered in archaeological excavations.
Keywords: Protohistory, Carmona, ceramic production, wheel-made pot-
tery, grey pottery.

bronce.
The findings of the Preventive Archaeological Excava-
tion in site nº 20 of Diego Navarro Street, Carmona (Seville) are
shown in this paper. During the excavation process a stratigraphic
secuence which started at the beginning of the Iron Age and which
has up to tree tartesic levels was documented. The most recent of
these levels is a building of the oriental period, from which we have
excavated various rooms with different building reforms, made
during the time that the rooms were in use. The oldest of these
tartesic phases is related to metallurgic activities of iron and bronze
production.

one in secondary position and another in primary position. A description of the funerary structure is given, as
well as, the results from the studies of the human remains, the grave goods and the meat offerings. Lastly,
the 14C (AMS) dates, which place both burials between the 19th – 17th centuries BC, are discussed along with
the analysis of the funerary ritual in a supra-local context
