We need to understanding the clientâs preferences, structuring teams strategically, and actively seeking feedback are key to enhancing communication. We should also respect the client's autonomy by supporting their decision-making and use the right tools or language services to overcome any communication barriers.

The first thing to ensure is that you are informed. You need to know something about the backgrounds of the people you are dealing with. What is their level of English? Do they struggle to understand it when spoken? To earn credibility it would be important to visibly establish this upfront and recognise it as something you are concerned about. When presenting, try to slow down and enunciate more than you would normally. Non-English speakers can sometimes struggle with regional accents so consciously gravitate to clear pronunciation and reduce slang. I often make a joke about this in workshops and say I am going to try to speak 'BBC English,' which usually raises a smile and achieves all the above.
