Saroj Kumar Rath
Award-winning author Dr. Saroj Kumar Rath is a historian and a leading strategic expert on South Asian affairs. He currently works at the University of Delhi. Dr. Rath's internationally acclaimed book Fragile Frontiers: The Secret History of Mumbai Terror Attacks, published by Routledge, London, in 2014, was awarded as the "BEST INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS EBOOK OF ALL TIME" in 2023 by BookAuthority, the independent arm of Amazon.
Dr. Rath has previously worked with Hosei University, Tokyo, Japan and Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. He is also a visiting professor at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Monterrey, Mexico.
His recent book "Bharat-Afghanistan Sambandh: Itihas Avam Videsh Niti Ke Ayine Me" is the first ever Hindi Book published for the ICWA, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. His other book is ‘Essential Ally: America and Britain from Gulf War to Iraq War’, 2010. He has edited two volumes on ‘Cyber Security in India’ published by Reference Press in 2015 and 2016.
Dr. Rath, during his 20-year academic career, has successfully guided two Ph.D. students and published more than 100 research papers and journal articles in national and international journals of repute.
A specialist on conflict resolution and terrorism, he is a regular invitee at the NATO-Turkish National Police’s annual policy makers-academics dialogue on international security. A regular speaker at global forums, Dr. Rath has widely travelled across the globe to speak on strategic affairs and international security.
Dr. Rath has completed research projects awarded by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Education to research the Security Situation in South Asia. A leader in the field of academia, Dr. Rath is Vice President of Canada-based ‘Alternative Perspective and Global Concern’ and a member of the Antalya, Turkey chapter of NATO-Academia Dialogue.

Firstly, the paper would make an empirical analysis on how Islamic extremism permeates into the Northeastern India and secondly, the research would scrutinize linear contributing factors responsible for the growth and thriving of extremism in the region with special focus on Pakistan’s motivation to take over Assam and support armed groups.
