Isamar Carrillo Masso
Dr. Isamar Carrillo Masso has taught English, Literature and Linguistics and Media Studies since 1997 in Venezuela, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, Oman, and the UK. Ms Carrillo Masso graduated with distinction in 2008 from Reading University, and completed a Ph.D. in research methods and complexity theory applied to games studies at Bangor University, where she lectured in Media and Cultural Studies and functioned as Copy-Editor to the Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds for four years. Isamar is now working on medical devices and diabetes research in South Wales.

英國威爾斯地區(Wales)在2010年通過的「心理健康辦法(The Mental Health Measure)」,是一項進步的立法,堪稱社區培力及跨學門合作的典範之一。本章除了討論此一法案之外,也試圖將心理健康理解為「論述空間(discursive spaces)」 (Heller, 2009) ,以探討不同背景的利害關係人如何互動,並透過不同論述所建構起來的思考框架,進行科學及人文之間多角度的對話。
本章將從三個層面逐步探討威爾斯「心理健康辦法」的實施與影響:第一、在現實世界的政策發展及法律執行中,跨領域合作在實踐上面對什麼挑戰?第二、心理醫療體系、相關學術專業,以及北威爾斯鄉村社區的民眾等,都各將如何因本辦法的執行而受益?第三、多元文化環境對此法案有何影響?如何透過教育傳播的方法達到心理健康服務的永續發展?
本章在結論中將會指出,面對心理疾病患者時,醫護及社工人員應接受哪些醫療專業之外的訓練,這些訓練不僅能增進服務提供者對科學及人文資料的處理能力,打開學生及醫師跨領域的視野,並能直接影響、提升心理病患的生活品質。

The Mental Health Measure, passed in Wales in 2010, is an example of progressive legislation. It is not only a leading example of community empowerment, but also represents the value of trans-disciplinary collaboration. In discussing the practicalities of the Mental Health Measure, this chapter considers mental health as “discursive spaces” (Heller, 2009) in order to understand how different stakeholders from various backgrounds interpret issues of mental health and interact with each other. The conceptualisation will also help us explore how Sciences and the Humanities meet within the framework constructed by the Mental Health Measure and produce positive results.
The chapter intends to answer three research questions: (1) How did a trans-disciplinary approach contribute to the development of the Mental Health Measure? What are the challenges and opportunities of practicing trans-disciplinarity for the purposes of policy development and the enactment of laws? (2) How might the health services, the training system of mental health professionals and the communities of North Wales benefit from the Mental Health Measure? And (3) how may trans-disciplinarity enhance the sustainability of the Mental Health Measure?
In conclusion, the chapter suggests additional trans-disciplinary training which should be offered to the nursing and medical staff, as well as to social workers who will work with mental health patients. Such training will benefit both scientific and humanistic approaches to data. Moreover, they will widen the horizons of students and practitioners in trans-disciplinary methods, and will exercise a direct impact on improving the quality of life of mental health patients.

This method, specifically developed for the study of games, will be used to explore the representation of Jewish identities and questions of faith in The Shivah (Wadjet 2006), a point-and-click, single-player adventure game where the player plays Rabbi Stone. Using a project-specific multimodal corpus, the chapter will attempt to analyze the discourses embedded in the game and their implication for our understanding of Jewish faith and Jewish identities.
Context and contrast will be drawn from examples from minor representations in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (Blizzard 2011) and Grand Theft Auto IV (Rockstar Games 2008), among other games. This context will be crucial to grasp the way in which understanding The Shivah can reform lour understanding as ludologists, semioticians, theologians and critical discourse analysts of the role that Judaism, and religion in general, plays in videogame ecologies.
Question to be asked are: does the game format ('modality' and 'mediality' [Johnson & Ensslin 2007]) allow for an unlimited and un-limitable range of representations to be produced in contrast to other media where notions of photorealism or greater censorship might apply? How can metaludic (Carrillo Masso 2009) and meta-linguistic practices (Preston 2004; Jaworski et al. 2004) in The Shivah inform our understanding of Jewish identities, as portrayed in the game? What discourses on religion are present in the game, and how are they enacted by players? What is the relationship between these issues of identity and representation, and the ergodic element of games?"

The paper will focus in particular on the representation of migration and migrant workers, and particularly the song's equal treatment of legal and illegal Latin American migrants, as well as of tropes such as class, religion and gender as they relate to the often contentious inter-/cross-cultural communication between Latin America and the global North. The analysis will be realised through the compilation of a multimodal
corpus examined through Transana 2.52 (WCER 2005-2012), and combining it with critical discourse analytical approaches, especially following Van Djik (2008), Fairclough (2003), Wodak (2004) and Baker (2006)."
