Today I'd like to share my observations on data exchange in AEC projects, based on my 10 years of experience working with BIM. Here are the three main methods of data exchange that I've noticed: 1. Data exchange without using open standards - Requires the use of multiple formats, often leading to data loss. - Data is static and often lacks essential properties. - Lack of consistency in naming conventions and data created for immediate needs. 2. Data exchange using open standards (IFC) - The quality of IFC can vary from application to application. - IFC is used as a reference but often requires post-processing to ensure appropriate data quality. - The process demands additional effort to make data uniform and useful. 3. Data exchange using open standards and a common platform - Applications use a common platform to store results (using API) - Data is stored using IFC, ensuring uniform quality. - IFC can be used in various scenarios, increasing efficiency and the potential for further data utilization. Using open standards like IFC, combined with common platforms for data storage, allows for higher quality, consistency, and efficiency in managing AEC projects. What is your perspective on this subject?
