• With the new update, the table of content has disappeared completely from my posts.

For reference I use it in the form of this shortcode: [toc]

I also use the links generated by this table of contents all across my site to allow my users to jump to specific points in the articles, so I have a feeling it’ll generate a lot of broken links and affect my SEO so a quick fix would really be appreciated!

If you have the WP Rollback plugin, it’s pretty easy to go right back to the last version directly from the plugin page. It works perfectly for me now!

No it works perfectly retroactively! I usually uninstall it when I’m not using it.

Edit: For people who it isn’t working with the plugin, the first option with the rollback is the current version, you gotta go 1 down.

    Check your heading levels

Installing a plugin to rollback plugins? You guys are crazy…

You just need to check two settings:

    • the third option in settings. Something like “Automatically insert for the following content types” -> Tick the “post” box
    • All the way down to advanced or extended options to find “Heading levels” choose the levels you would like to have (h1, h2,h3,…)
    • stop installing a plugin for every nonsense. it overloads your site. So get rid of this rollback plugin ASAP and learn where to find previous versions. Just click on the advanced tap on the plugin side and scroll all the way down -> https://de.wordpress.org/plugins/table-of-contents-plus/advanced/
      No plugin needed.

Great update, change your settings for free 🙂

Crazy lol? It’s a 2 click solution, vs having to go to the plug-in page, get to the right version, download, and manually install.

When you’re busy running a site, this is pretty helpful as time is money. Just deactivate the plugin when you’re not using it and bam it doesn’t slow down your site.

Also, its a bit weird that everyone’s comments but mine and people acting like this broken update is no big deal were deleted?

I have a lot of custom settings in there, so I’d rather not have put it all back in.

The solution that Ivan Danilin posted works. No need to roll back.

Go to Advanced settings and check the headings.

@naughtyneo that solution doesn’t work and my previous comment got deleted.

The new version deletes the settings from:

Heading levels: Includes the following heading levels. Deselecting a heading will exclude it.

Select the headers and press save. It will appear again on the site.

Solution from @specotdel worked for me, indeed all my settings were not showing but upon selecting the headings I want covered and saving them — it now works as expected.

Can you tell me if there will be an update to the plugin, so you do not have to manually set the settings again?

I can wait and not update yet. This is not convenient if you have a lot of sites.

I also use the [toc] and changing the settings does not work for me unless I actually update the post. I have 100’s of posts I would have to go in and update. There has to be another way. I cleared cache but its not showing on posts that have not been updated
